Chris smirked and said quietly, but just loud enough for Aphid to hear her, "I'm not a big fan of mythology, but I've heard that Aphrodite was very vain and conceited." Chris couldn't help saying it. It was true after all.

"I am not! Oh, you're going to regret saying that!" Aphid was ticked. She wasn't vain or conceited! Stupid mythology books, always playing on how she liked to look her best for any occasion. Well, almost any occasion. She had gone out today with her hair down and no makeup on, an absolute first for the reigning queen of beauty.

Chris continued on, ignoring Aphid's threat. "She even cursed some poor girls because people thought they were prettier than her. I mean, c'mon! How vain can you get?" She flipped a page in the book she was looking at and read the small poems that were inside in her head.

Aphid made a face. "Don't remind me, please." She glared at Chris. "And since when do you know so much about Aphrodite?"

Chris wrinkled her nose and turned another page. "Our History teacher dedicated a whole two weeks worth of classes to teaching us about Greek Mythology." She said in a bored tone. "I really do feel sorry for some the people that got cursed or died just because the gods were being selfish."

"Oh, two weeks, and you think you know everything there is to know about Greece and it's gods and goddesses?" Aphid was really ticked now. She thought Chris was her friend. Aphid turned with an irritated 'hmmph!' and stalked off to the Greek mythology books.

Chris looked up and frowned slightly. Maybe she went a little to far. Chris shook her head. No way! She was just stating her opinion about what the books had said. It's not her fault that Aphid couldn't take it. She closed the book and turned it in her hands in search for the price tag.

Aphid picked up a mythology book and skimmed through it, finding her most favorite story right away. Sighing, she went over to a corner and curled up, reading. "Artemis and Apollo were borne from Leto on a floating isle..." she said softly to herself, not caring who heard her.

Chris finally spotted the small price tag and winced mentally. "That much for a book?" She said quietly to herself. Well, she could afford it... and it was for Lori. She let out a small sigh. Fine. She would buy the book.

Jacqueline cringed at the small fight. She then stood up and smiled, walking over to Aphid. "So your name's Aphrodite? How pretty. My favorite is Athena, but I love Aphrodite." Jacqueline smirked, an idea forming. "Oh," she added, still smirking. "Aphrodite wasn't concieted, she was just scared that if some mortal was prettier then her, the other gods and goddeses wouldn't like her anymore. Poor thing." she said, making a small pout. She then walked over to Chris. "That one's on sale actually. It's usually fifty, but today, swenty-five" Jacqueline smiled, running her hand over the smooth cover. "I love Eger Allen Poe. The Raven particularly."

Jacqueline's words soothed Aphid, and she smiled, forgetting all the harshness Chris had just bestowed upon her. "Athena is a very wise and courageous woman. You should be proud to choose, in my opinion, the best goddess there is as your favorite." She was talking just loudly enough for Chris to hear her. Her sister Athena really was the best goddess, and she loved having in-depth conversations with her. "I really don't care if I'm Aphrodite...as long as my sisters are happy, I'm fine." she said softly. "And just because Chris thinks I'm vain and concieted doesn't mean other people think so." Aphid was becoming paranoid, and letting Chris's words get to her. What if people really did think she was vain and concieted? She was the goddess of love and beauty! How could she not worry about her appearance? Aphid sighed and rubbed her temples, the start of a headache making its way into her skull.

Jacqueline had dissapeared, but soon came out of the door on the back wall with her hans closed. "I do love her. Is it true she has a pet owl?" Jacqueline asked, walking over to Aphid. She held out her hand, showing to asprin tablets, and she held a glass of water in the other hand. "It's ok." she whispered. "I have an older sister." she added as she handed the things to her. "Love and beaty are hard things to look after. It's not your fault everyone forces you to look your best." she nodded, walking away for a second. Jacqueline came back with a small, atique looking box. "We've been trying to get rid of this for some time." she said quietly, as if scared. "Most people belive it's cursed. But you....I belive it belongs to you." She grinned, opening the box. Inside was a large, ruby pendant on a gold chain, it had a large A carved into it in gold. "Aphrodite's amulet." Jacqueline said, smiling at Aphid.

Aphid smiled and gratefully took the aspirin tablets and water, swallowing both quickly. Her eyes widened when she saw the amulet. "M...My amulet....where on earth did you find it? I've been looking for it for years!" She gently took the amulet out of the box, handling it with great care. "My dad...he gave this to me."

Chris had stopped and listened to their conversation. Her eyes seemed to be drawn to the amulet. It was very pretty. It certainly did look like it belonged to a princess or... a goddess.

Aphid's smile widened. "Thank you so much!" she said gleefully. She pressed her hand to Jacqueline's forehead and chanted something in Greek. "There. You have the gods' blessing. You shall live long with good health, and find your soulmate. And you will be ageless for many years to come, keeping that beautiful face of yours wrinkle free" she added with a wink. "Courtesy of Aphrodite."
